Cocktail Lounge – Fashion Week Mackay

The second component of the inaugural Fashion Week Mackay line up, the Cocktail Lounge event will be the social event of the year for Mackay’s young and fashionable. Guests will congregate in Mackay’s newest function centre for the red carpet event and be served a selection of decadent canapés and cocktails from a skilled Mixologist. Internationally acclaimed Fashion Designer and Fashion Week Mackay Ambassador Jason Chetcuti will be judging the fashions of the night, with the winner receiving a $1000 shopping spree. Day of Action – Mackay Rally Against Domestic Violence

We want your help to show support! Join us in making a stand to publicly condemn domestic violence.

The public rally at 10am will coincide with rallies and marches around Queensland as part of a local government campaign, titled Safer Families, Better Communities. Speakers at the rally will include Nick Bennett, of Minds Aligned. He knows first-hand the terror of violence after surviving a murderous ambush on the Black Cat Trail in Papua New Guinea. Bring a hat, sunscreen and water, gold coin donations for local support groups will be accepted.

Baby Bounce

This program of nursery rhymes, lullabies, finger plays, songs and the use of board and picture books promotes language and literacy development in an interactive, fun-filled environment. The sessions encourage valuable one-on–one time between parent and child and are also a great networking opportunity for parents and carers. Please bring a quilt, rug or cushion for your child.

Diversify Mackay Leadership Alliance – Annual Report Card Luncheon

CREAM: Four decades of Australian Art

A showcase of significant artworks by Australian artists which have rarely been seen outside Rockhampton, this exhibition chronicles the development of modernism in Australia from 1940 to 1980, and includes paintings, drawings and prints by artists such as John Perceval, Arthur Boyd, Charles Blackman, Sidney Nolan, Russell Drysdale, John Brack, Clifton Pugh, Sam Fulbrook, Margaret Olley and Fred Williams.

Creative Generation

The exhibition celebrates the work of senior arts students from high schools across the region. The pieces on display have been hand selected by a panel of teachers for demonstrating sophisticated concepts, technical skill and innovative aesthetic choices. Come and enjoy the collective visions of the region’s brightest young artists.

Botanica 2015′ – An exhibition by the Mackay Botanical Art Interest Group

The Botanica 2015 Exhibition’s features orchids both native and exotic. The artists use a range of techniques to portray their chosen subject. The exhibition complements the 20th Australian Orchid Council Conference and Show being held in Mackay in September. Botanical art combines detail, accuracy and artistry, with many hours needed for each watercolour painting, acrylic painting or graphite drawing. A glimpse into the inner workings of the botanical artists is provided by displays of their sketchbooks, photos, odd pods and all things flora, showing how the artists take a live specimen and create a “living” piece of botanical art. Lagoons Gallery is open Wednesday to Friday 10am to 3pm and weekends 9am to 4pm.
