WHAT IS PELVIC HEALTH, AND HOW DO YOU KEEP UP WITH IT?
“My friend has an appointment with a Women’s Health Physio and I’m curious – what does sorts of things can a women’s health physio help with?”
Most people tend to associate women’s health physio with pelvic floor exercises; which is certainly a part of what we do, particularly when treating urinary or faecal incontinence. We also have the capability to help with so much more.
Pelvic Health physios deal with much more than just pelvic floor exercises. From day to day, we treat a range of anti and post-natal issues, including pelvic floor rehabilitation, management of musculoskeletal issues associated with pregnancy, and even mastitis.
Pregnancy is not the only thing that can cause pelvic issues. We commonly manage pelvic organ prolapse, bladder urgency and frequency, sexual dysfunction (such as pain during sex) and pelvic floor overactivity – which could be a driving cause of your hip or low back pain!
You can expect a thorough assessment of your pelvic floor and many other contributing factors, and the most recent evidence-based education and treatment options. This may involve treatment to relax some muscles, or exercise programs to strengthen others, changes to toileting routines and other lifestyle modifications.
