Big celebrations set for Australia Day

Townsville residents will have the chance to show off their Aussie pride at Jezzine Barracks tomorrow when Townsville City Council hosts its annual Australia Day celebrations.

The morning’s bumper schedule of events will include a fun run, free Aussie breakfast, citizenship ceremony, Australia Day Awards, flag raising ceremony and will conclude at noon with a 21 gun salute with Australian Defence Force Fly Past. 

A food court, amusement rides and live entertainment will also be on offer.

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk and His Excellency the Honourable Paul de Jersey AC, Governor of Queensland will be on hand for the official Flag Raising Ceremony.

9.45am: Australia Day Awards Ceremony

11am: State Flag Raising Ceremony

12pm: 21 gun salute with Australian Defence Force Fly Past

Road Closures

Road closures will be in place within the Jezzine Barracks precinct between 5am and 1pm on the day. No entry will be permitted from The Strand, Howitt St, Mitchell St, Isley St and Cook St. Isley Street between Cook St and Mitchell St will be closed between 11.30am and 12.30pm.

Noise Warning

The Australian Defence Force will be conducting a traditional 21 Gun Salute, followed by an Air Force Flypast at Jezzine Barracks at 12:00pm.
