Sports Expo and Sign-on Day
2017 Sports Expo and Sign-on Day at the MECC on Sunday, 12th February from 9:00am to 1:00pm.
The annual expo and sign-on day has become an important event on Mackay’s sporting calendar.
The expo allows local sporting groups and clubs to showcase their sports and encourages Mackay residents to stay active. Approx. 100 clubs will be exhibiting. It’s a great event for people of the region to bring their kids to and also for adults to see what a wonderful range of diverse sports and activities that are on offer
Special guest QLD Firebirds Netball sharp shooter, Romelda Aiken, will be attending this year.
The event, facilitated by Mackay Regional Council, is supported by corporate partners Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal.
Marlins Swim School
Marlins Swim School is an independent privately owned and operated Swim School that has been operating for 15 years in the Mackay region.
Located in the popular Northern beaches area, their indoor heated facility and Austswim qualified teaching staff, we are dedicated to ensuring each child has the opportunity to learn.
Our program goals are:
For every child to find swimming an enjoyable learning experience
To teach safety as a priority
For every child to learn, buoyancy, stability balance, and breath control in preparation for great swimming skills and techniques
To promote physical fitness
To enhance land based skills, cognitive development, discipline and confidence as a means of a WHOLE development of the child
To assist every child to reach their full potential regardless of ability or disability
State sign on – Wednesday 4 February
Today’s Scouts can take part in an extraordinary variety of outdoor activities, from ‘traditional Scouting skills’ such as camping and bushcraft, through to more extreme challenges such as abseiling, overnight hiking, rafting, canoeing, canyoning, rock climbing, sailing… even flying!

Mackay Triathalon Club
The Mackay Triathlon Club is a community based non-for-profit organisation that promotes health and fitness in a fun and welcoming atmosphere. We aim to encourage the participation of everyone from juniors and beginners to weekend warriors and elite athletes. The combination of swimming, cycling and running various distances is unique to triathlons and poses a challenge to competitors as well as an exciting sport to watch for spectators.
The club provides:
- Local events, training and information sessions
- Junior development of the sport – School Series
- Duathlon Series (2 events)
- Women’s Only Triathlons
- Two major events – Mackay Triathlon Festival including a Corporate Team Triathlon
Sunday 24th January – Aquathon – Pioneer Pool, 300m swim, 2.5km run x 1 or x2 7am Registration – 8:00am Race Start – Race Director: Steph Allen 0407 437 249
The Aussie Aquathon is the first event of the year, held at the Pioneer Pool. Format: 2.5km run and 300m swim through either once (Enticer) or twice (Sprint). They also have a Mini Kids event made of 600m run and 50/100m swim
As this event is generally around Australia Day they encourage everyone to wear something Aussie and stay for our social BBQ and Aussie random draw afterwards. This event is open to everyone so come along and have some fun with the Club!
