Celebrating FNQ Filmmakers Annually

There are only four days until the Understory Film Festival which will offer both filmmakers and film lovers a space to celebrate short films. All of the short films will explore stories of Far North Queensland, created by Far North Queensland filmmakers.

Although film submissions closed in early October for filmmakers, it’s not too late for those who are keen on watching to get tickets to the screenings and awards night. In addition, the Filmmaker Talk From Script To Screen takes place in the afternoon on the same day as the screenings. It is completely FREE!

Filmmaker Talk. From Script To Screen – Cairns Convention Centre

The free talk will take place from 2.00pm – 4.00pm on 7 November and is presented by Understory Film Festival. They invite all people passionate about films to join in on conversations with professionals (Screen Industry professionals). This includes Molly Reynolds, Dena Curtis, Caden Pearson, Jessica Kneipp, Steve Jaggi and Douglas Watkin (Screen QLD). The conversations will look into production pathways and practical advice on successfully transferring ideas from script to screen. In addition, the guest professionals will also share career highlights, their inspirations, and the challenges they have faced as filmmakers. Get ready to feel motivated and learn from this awesome opportunity!

Understory Film Festival Screening and Awards Night – Munro Martin Parklands

From 5.00pm on 7 November the gates to Munro will open and from 7.00pm the film screenings and awards will take place. Join others under the tropical night sky at this event for it’s seventh year as a row, recognising the amazing talents, commitment and enthusiasm of emerging, student and professional filmmakers living in Far North Queensland – our own local stars!

The festival will show an array of short films to the audience across a variety of genres, including music videos, documentaries, animations, comedies, and more. Winners will be announced at the end (Judges are already watching/have watched the submissions). Find out more about the judging system, here). One of the most important competitions is the People’s Choice Award – which the crowd will all decide on at the end of the night as well.

Get your friends or some family members together and spend the evening relaxing in the park. Food and a bar will be available onsite.
