Rockmelon off the table for pregnant mums and bubs
Hold on to your melons, mums and dads, because rockmelon is the latest fruit to be linked to salmonella poisoning.
Food Standards Australia and New Zealand says all consumers, but especially the elderly, children and pregnant women, should avoid eating rockmelon while it investigates the matter.
What has caused the concern? According to Food Standard Australia and New Zealand (FSANZ), the problem is most likely associated with insufficient cleaning. Rockmelon is grown in all states and territories, except Tasmania and the Australian Capital Territory.
If you do need a rockmelon fix, then be sure to wash the fruit completely before eating. FSANZ will most likely issue a more detailed analysis in the future so stay tuned.
