Food, family and sunshine.  Picnics are one of the simple pleasures in life, and there are so many ways to enjoy them.

We are so lucky to live in a beautiful part of the world where the weather is perfect almost year-round for picnics with friends or family. Whether you’re off on a staycation and packing a meal to enjoy along the way or catching up with family at the local park, there’s plenty of ways to make your picnic perfect.

Delicious nibbles

One of the main ingredients to a successful picnic is deliciously healthy food. Pack some refreshing salads, seasonal fruits, healthy smoothies and oven baked treats and your picnic is sure to be a winner (even amongst the kids).

While mini sandwiches, sliced fruit and carrot sticks are great picnic staples, why not take it up a notch and bring homemade sausage rolls, mini quiches, cupcakes, fritters or scones? The possibilities are simply endless. If you’re looking to empty out the fridge, a great platter with ham, salami, nuts, carrot and celery always goes down well.

Chasing waterfalls

One of the great benefits of having a picnic is the location. The possibilities are endless, from forests to beaches and everything in between. Why not take a drive and plan your picnic around a visit to one of the stunning locations Queensland has to boast?

Another great idea is setting up your picnic close to a playground or swimming hole so the kids can have a bit of fun in between nibbles, and you’ve got a comfortable spot to supervise from.

Keep it convenient

All this talk about delicious food and beautiful locations is great, but you need to transport all your food and equipment from A to B without your picnic turning into a recipe for disaster. Investing in a handy cooler bag, a thick picnic blanket and a set of kid-friendly plates and cutlery will turn your day from good to great. Don’t forget to bring sunscreen, water bottles, napkins, trash bags and wet wipes.
