With plenty of fun coming up these school holidays in and around Mackay we wanted to share with all our Mackay families our favourite activities for the kids.

Go Ice Skating

Let’s start at Caneland Central where Icetastic is back! Take the kids for an icy skate from Thursday 23 June to Sunday 10 July, 9.00am – 6.00pm Daily (8.30pm on Thursdays and Saturdays)

Located at the Riverfront Carpark, a one hour session is $15.00 per person and and bookings are required. Call 0412 344 941 to make a booking or visit www.canelandcentral.com.au for more details.

Enjoy Family Carnival Night

On 25 June at 2.00pm the place to be is Souths Leagues Club for their Family Carnival and Movie Night. There will be Old Macdonald’s farm, a magician, balloon artist and a kid’s concert. Enjoy fairy floss, stilt walkers, face painters, bouncy castles and much more.

Then, stay for a movie at 6.00pm.

Check out Begin Bright

Begin Bright Mackay is new to Mackay and program director, Erica will be conducting various school holiday programs for kids. Erica creates a learning environment where all children have the opportunity to reach their full potential. For more information, call Erica 0400 161 902 or email mackay@beginbright.com.au.

Enjoy family movies 

Harrup Park Country Club are hosting various different movie nights during the school holidays. From 6.30pm to 8.30pm on Tuesdays you and the kids can enjoy popcorn and drinks plus a feature film. The kids must be members of the kids club and bookings are essential.

So what movies are on offer? They’ve got The Good Dinosaur on 28 June and Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day on 5 July. Call 4944 0000 to book in, limited spots available.

 Get cooking

Head down to Porters for a tasty treat the entire family will love. Porters and The Family Table Kids Cooking Classes will take place Saturday 25 June, Sunday 26 June and Saturday 2 July and Sunday 3 July. At $12 per child these classes will be great for any budding chef in your household.

Read and relax at Bedtime Stories 

If you feel like you miss out on all the school holiday fun because of work, then this is one event not to be missed. Hosted by the Mackay City Libraries, Bedtime Stories is aimed at 0-8 year olds and their families (particularly working parents) and is held in the evening during the school holidays.

This hour long program of stories, finger plays, songs and a craft activity enhances language and literacy development in an interactive, fun-filled environment.

The sessions encourage a child’s love of books, highlights the value of reading to children and promotes the library environment as an exciting place for the whole family.

The library also hosts school holiday programs throughout the week as well as a free comedy show and workshop with comedian Sean Murphy on 6 July.

Enjoy a puppet show

Head over to Let the Children Play for three chances to experience a puppet show to delight your youngins. Watch the stage come alive with Goldilocks and the Three Bears thanks to Rosalyn from Wild Puppets. There are three different show times and dates –  Tuesday 28 June at 10.00am, Wednesday 29 June at 2.00pm and Monday 4 July at 10.00am.

Organise a play date

And the best place to enjoy the chaos of a play date is at Kidzlife Play Centre. Group bookings are available for 10 kids or more – call in advance to book and a $50 deposit is required to confirm your booking.

You’ll have guaranteed entry and receive 10% off the kidz entry cost and adults are free.

Or, you can also hire your very own room for $100 which includes entry for 5 kids, party room for 1 hour where you can eat your own lunch or snacks from home, and a table reserved in the centre as well. Extra kidz at normal admission prices, adults are free.
