Sunday Funday returns to 2018 Cairns Festival on Sunday 26 August, transforming the iconic Esplanade foreshore with free entertainment and fun for all ages.

Families are invited to come along and rest at the picturesque Cairns Lagoon while enjoying a range of free music, workshops, activities and performances.

The region’s youngest culture vultures will be first on the scene for a host of free kids’ activities from 10am – 3pm.

Let the kids loose as they explore, decorate, imagine and build at the Citadel – It’s Latin For Little City activity taking place from 10am – 3pm near the Lagoon.

Free entertainment all day for Sunday Funday

Other activities include Puppet Play with local artist, Hayley Gillespie from 10am – 2pm next to the Lagoon where children can dream up a character and then make it in this basic puppetry workshop for all ages.

The Travelling Story House will be roving at 10am and midday inviting kids to meet some cheeky characters, listen to stories and learn more about the environment around the tropical far north.

For those with their dances shoes on, the Open Air Disco will be pumping on the Festival Stage from 10am – midday.

Around the corner on the Cairns Marina from 12:30pm, the Cairns Festival Long Lunch returns for the foodies of the north to indulge in a mouth-watering tropical four-course menu that highlights the unique flavours and ingredients from Tropical North Queensland.

Far north’s flavour and flair on a plate

The day doesn’t end there with a free Festival Family Concert kicking off from 1:30pm with live, local entertainment, culminating in a headlining performance by self-proclaimed tropical ambassador Bobby Alu, direct from Byron Bay.

Amidst smooth harmonies and rhythms, Bobby is inspired by a strong family lineage of Polynesian performance, delivering island-time vibes with gentle optimism, encouraging the type of reflection best achieved in a hammock.
