With the Aussie Open now finished for yet another year, tennis is about to get underway on the local scene at Pioneer Tennis situated at 6 Leisure Street, Mackay (off Bridge Rd)

The Club has a Saturday Morning Comp Ladder where juniors are placed in Ladders to their ability to ensure fair and competitive tennis.  Working within the National framework of Hot Shots, the Saturday Morning Comp ensures all standards are catered for.  Every junior is assigned a group to represent.  Team Tomic, Team Stosur, Team Kyrgios or Team Groth, the junior represent both their house and them as an individual.  At the end of the season, all juniors receive a trophy and their nominated house shields.

And the beauty of Saturday Morning Comp is you are not committed to turning up each and every week.  If you are coming though, you do have to be signed onto the ladder by the start time.  Each Grade is supervised and run with ladders updated by the Monday after play.

The annual expo and sign-on day has become an important event on Mackay’s sporting calendar, with about 8000 people attending in 2015.

There will be around 100 clubs exhibiting and there will also be live demonstrations in the Rio Tinto

Active Zone

It’s a great event for people of the region to bring their kids to and also for adults to see what a wonderful range of diverse sports and activities that are on offer

RUGBY league legend Shane Webcke will be back again this year for his fourth expo in five years. “I do a lot of things in regional Queensland and a lot of them are based around sport, but nothing comes close to this – just the amount of different sports that are represented here and the passion with which people represent those sports. It’s one of the most unique and interesting events that I attend,’’ he said.

The event, facilitated by Mackay Regional Council, is supported by corporate partners Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal, Rio Tinto, Sportspower and Sporting Wheelies and Disabled Association.

4. Jump Swim School

Ph: 0438 175 681

JUMP! was founded to create a private teaching facility for babies, infants and children to learn to swim away from the vast numbers at public facilities.

They provide a clean, modern and private indoor facility which is heated throughout the year.

Their service is unique by providing smaller classes which allows the swim instructors to develop positive relationships with both parents and children.
