Serving dad breakfast in bed is a great way to start the day (plus it’s cheaper than a family brekky out!). Breakfast can be as simple or as fancy as you like, but you can’t beat some of these favourites: ‘Big Breakfast’ bacon and eggs; pancakes with caramel bananas or lemon and sugar; English muffins with smoked salmon and poached or fried eggs; avocado and cherry tomatoes on toasted ciabatta; croissants with ham and melted cheese. The secret to a stress-free breakfast in bed is grabbing everything you need and prepping what you can the night before.

If the weather is nice, planning an outdoor activity is a great way to enjoy some quality time with dad and the family. Outdoor activities such as bushwalking, having a picnic or BBQ, or kicking a ball around in the park are inexpensive and accessible for the whole family. If dad enjoys playing a particular sport, such as golf, you could arrange a round for him. If your children are too little to play a sport like golf, you could arrange for him to play nine holes with another dad and then meet him afterwards with the family for a picnic lunch.

A back-up plan with some indoor activities is a wise idea, just in case the weather isn’t on your side. Activities such as bowling, trampolining, or go-karting will bring out dad’s inner ‘big kid’, and the kids love these activities too.

Less active indoor pursuits – such as seeing a movie or listening to live music- are great for dads who just want to relax. Check out your cinema or local gig guide to see what’s on the week before so you can give dad some options and book ahead if you need too.

You’ll probably have worked up an appetite after such a busy day, so a nourishing meal will be just what dad needs at the end of the day. If you’re dining at home, get a ‘man meal’ that dad will love, such as a high-quality cut of meat to roast, or some ribs to slow cook.
