Mount Sheridan Plaza School Holiday Activities

Slime of Your Life
When: 11 – 15 January, 10.00am and 12.00pm (two shows daily, run time: 40 minutes)
Get ready to have the ‘Slime of Your Life’ at Mount Sheridan Plaza, with this great kids show hosted by the fantastic Paramour Theatre. During each show, participants will be drawn from the audience to take part in wild and wacky mini-games. They just might get slimed!
Creative Arts Activities
When: 18 – 22 January, 10.00am – 2.00pm
Unleash their imaginations and creativity with the Cairns Art Gallery in Centre Court. Kids can learn collage, portrait drawing, sculpture, upcycled art and participate in Australia Day themed fun. Visit the website for all of the details.
Kids Summer Entertainment with Cairns Libraries
When: Summer School Holidays
Where: Cairns Libraries
Register for the epic Summer Reading Club Program to take part in fun activities. This includes the 40 days in 40 ways reading challenge and library scavenger hunt, running until 31 January. The FREE activity pack can be picked up from any local library.
Kids can also enjoy the Science Spark STEM activities, Crafty Origami, Online Cartooning Workshops and the hilarious Sean Murphy Live – Online Commonwealth of Games show, all for FREE! There’s no room for summer holiday boredom with Cairns Libraries!
Centacare FNQ’ s School Savvy Pop-Up Shop
When: 5 – 28 Jan, weekdays 10.00am – 2.00pm unless sold out

School Savvy is an upcycling initiative now in its fifth year, which aims to provide affordable school uniforms and supplies for those families on low incomes or those who are going through challenging times. The main School Savvy FNQ Pop-Up Shop will be located in Manunda, with other pop-ups happening in Mooroobool and Edmonton on selected dates. Donations of good quality, second-hand or new school uniforms and school supplies will also continue to be accepted throughout January. Donations can be dropped off at the School Savvy shop during opening hours. Or, alternatively, donations can be dropped at any Vinnies store or at Centacare FNQ reception on the first floor at Aplin Street.
11th January, 10.00am – 2.00pm – Centacare FNQ, Mooroobool School Savvy Pop-Up Shop. 1 day only at Mooroobool Community Hub, 2 Shang Street.

The Best Activity Sessions with Cairns Museum
When: 4 – 9 January (Tinkering with Transportation), 11 – 16 January (Tropical Mosaics) and 18 – 23 January (Morse Code Madness). All are from 10.00am and 12.00pm as one hour sessions.
Where: Cairns Museum (School of Arts Building)
Cairns Museum is providing educational and exciting workshops for kids aged 5 – 12 years old these holidays, FREE with Museum entry (must be booked online).
Tinkering with Transportation explores how methods of transport have changed over time. Can your creations pass the Museum’s fun design challenges? Tropical Mosaics encourages kids to make their very own mosaic that celebrates Cairns. Finally, Morse Code Madness teaches kids about the history of Morse Code, finishing with the attendees making their own morse code device.
Australia Day Pool Party
When: Tuesday 26 January, 9.00am – 12.00pm
Where: Tobruk Memorial Pool
Get ready for an epic morning of Australia Day family fun! Tobruk Memorial Pool and the Cairns Regional Council invite everyone to join in on games, giveaways, the FREE sausage sizzle, dragon boating and come and try events (water polo and underwater hockey) – all through FREE entry to one of Cairns most iconic venues.
Council celebrations will also take place at Holloways Beach and Norman Park in Gordonvale for the Holloways Beach Party between 8.00am and 11.00am, and the Gordonvale Party in the Park between 11.00am and 2.00pm. Join in the family fun with live entertainment, FREE sausage sizzle and market stalls.
Mel Buttle and Friends – Good Chat Comedy Club
When: Thursday 14 January, 18 +
Where: Paramour Cabaret Theatre
Adults won’t want to miss the hilarious comic Mel Buttle at the Paramour Cabaret Theatre, delivering a great performance as always. After her first solo show in 2010, Mel’s career launched into full gear and the Aussie icon was leaving every crowd in stitches. Now she has brought her talent to our very own slice of paradise in Far North Queensland.
