The 2017 Cairns Children’s Festival returns on Sunday 21 May, and this year we’re introducing some fresh new faces to kids, (and their adults!) to fall in love with.

Meet Penda. Born from the canopies of the surrounding rainforest, Penda spun into life in a blast of Coral Sea trade winds. Penda is a gentle giant, who provides cool shade as she rustles gently along. Penda reminds us of all the fun and colour that exists in the trees that are all around us, so go find your own Penda and start a new adventure.

Is it a fly…Is it a mosquito or is it a tiny ZIPPING ROBOT buzzing with new ideas! Say hey to Zippy. He might be tiny but he is full of exciting ideas. Made from tin cans and a shower hose Zippy was brought to life by a million little creative minds causing a creativity explosion that has powered Zippy ever since. Zippy lives in all places where creativity exists, that’s what keeps him strong and buzzing with new ideas!

You might know that snakes slither and snakes hiss and snakes have sssscaley skin…but did you know that snakes can be crafty? Introducing Diamond the crafty python. When Diamond is not slithering around the rainforest or shedding her skin she is painting, drawing, pasting, weaving and whatever else she can wrap her tail around.  Creativity and craft is for everyone just ask Diamond.

Can you hear him scratching? Look up can you see him in the trees? Make way for Scratch! Scratch is a turkey who lives in the natural wonderland of the Botanical Gardens. He knows all the stories of the hills and mountains and sits guard on top of the highest and oldest tree making sure everyone who plays in his gardens is caring, sharing and respectful to his home.

With a mix of affordable ticketed events and six hours of FREE, family-fun events, children aged 12 and under are invited to play, learn and perform all over the Festival site.
